Position:
I am the sole practitioner in my endodontic practice in Louisville, KY. I have been practicing endo for 33 years. I plan to include a recent graduate in the practice soon.
Career Highlights:
I went to dental school at the University of Florida and graduated in 1985. I worked with a general practice in Gainesville for 2-3 years and did research at the university.
I was accepted into the University of Louisville Endodontic residency in 1988 and graduated in 1990. I have practiced endo since then.
Why Endodontics: Experience in general dentistry, as well as shadowing a local endodontist, helped develop my interest in endo.
Best Piece of Career Advice: My advice for others would be to gain as much overall experience in dentistry (private practice or AGD program) before entering a residency. The more experience the better!
Endo Challenge: The main challenge I have faced is learning to run a business, as I am not naturally gifted in this area! I have been blessed to have a loyal office manager who has helped me handle difficult business concerns. Together we have become a team, and that has made a major difference in overcoming the stress that working in business entails.
Reason for Becoming an AAE member: I enjoy being a member of AAE. I am able to meet and learn from many others through reading their research or seeing them at dental meetings.
Fun Fact: On a different topic, my wife Sara and I are very eager to minister to the needs of others through a Christian ministry that meets in our home. We have been blessed immensely, and we hope to make a difference in the lives of others who might benefit from our involvement.
Community Question: How should one define success over the course of a career in endodontics?
