Say hello to Dr. @Ali Alsuhail

Position:  I am a full-time endodontist, currently practicing in two private practices in the Chicagoland area: Axis Endodontics and Karras Endodontics. I joined the UIC College of Dentistry as a part-time clinical assistant professor in May 2023.

Career Highlights:

·                Graduated from Baghdad College of Dentistry in 2009.

·                Graduated from the University of Illinois in Chicago dental school in 2016.

·                Completed my Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital in San Antonio in 2018.

·                Graduated from the University of Illinois in Chicago Endodontic residency program in 2021.

Why Endodontics: My experience as an endodontic assistant with the renowned Dr. Mohamed Fayad inspired me to pursue endodontics as a specialty. I was impressed by his expertise and drawn to the challenge of helping patients with endodontic needs. I also wanted to be proficient in one specialty so that I could provide the highest quality of care to my patients.

Best Piece of Career Advice: One piece of advice that resonates with me is "You don’t know what you don’t know." This advice encourages me to learn continuously every day from different clinicians and their experiences. That's one of the reasons why I follow the AAE discussion forum religiously these days.

Endo Challenge: During my first year of Endodontic residency, Covid hit, and the clinic had to shut down. I was worried I would not get enough training before graduation. However, I overcame that by offering my services to GP offices to perform RCTs during the pandemic, which also helped patients in extreme pain. I also ensured that I did not miss any clinical sessions for the remaining period of the residency after the clinic fully opened.

Reason for Becoming an AAE member My main reason for becoming an AAE member was to network with other Endodontists, learn from others, and follow the AAE discussion to stay updated with the latest in the Endodontic field.

Fun Fact: I learned English through my love of playing video games! While my friends were out playing, I stayed in to “learn English”.

Community Question: As a fairly new graduate, what is one piece of advice that you can offer to me?
