Bio

Biography for Dr. Keith V. Krell DDS, MS, MA

Dr. Krell has been an endodontist for 43 years and was in full-time private practice in West Des Moines, Iowa for 28 years.  He is an adjunct clinical Professor in the department of Endodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry where he also served as graduate program director until 1989. In 1993, he retired from the United States Army National Guard as a lieutenant colonel after 22 years of service. In 2018, he retired from full-time private practice but since then, has been providing part-time care to patients at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa

He has written 6 chapters for three endodontic text books, published 45 articles and has lectured nationally and internationally. His clinical research on cracked teeth over 25 years was published In JOE April, 2018 for which he received the JOE award for best clinical paper in 2018.

He received his D.D.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Iowa in 1981 and 1983, respectively. He earned his BA in Sociology from Washington University in St. Louis in 1970, and his M.A. degree in sociology-anthropology in 1975, from the United States International University in San Diego, Calif while serving in the USN.

Dr. Krell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, as well as a past director and  Treasurer (2004-2006) President of the American Board of Endodontics (2007) and Past Trustee and President of the American Association of Endodontists Foundation(2012-2014). He has been a member of the Executive Committee of the American Association of Endodontists for five of the the past six years (2014-2020) and President 2019-2020. He also has been an examiner for the American Board of Endodontics. There are too many committee appointments and chairs/liasons to bore everyone with! (Though 2004 General Chair for Dr. Torabinejad's meeting was notable, and being General Chair  for Dr. Hirshberg's meeting in LA should be fun!)

Dr. Krell was a counselor for the College of Diplomates of the ABE for 9 years and provided reviews for taking the Oral exam for 7 years.

Dr. Krell is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Journal of Endodontics and is a reviewer for both the JOE and JADA.

Dr. Krell has been married for 50+ continuous years to Diane and they have five grand children.
